Hot-Dip Galvanised (HDG) Plate is a steel plate coated with zinc by immersing it in molten zinc to protect it from corrosion.

What it is

• Base material: Mild steel plate

• Coating method: Hot-dip galvanising (steel dipped in ~450 °C molten zinc)

• Protection mechanism:

  • Barrier protection (zinc coating blocks moisture/air)

  • Cathodic protection (zinc corrodes first, protecting steel)

Key characteristics

• Excellent corrosion resistance (especially outdoors & industrial areas)

• Long service life (20–50+ years depending on environment)

• Rough, spangled surface (typical HDG finish)

• Self-healing for small scratches (zinc sacrifices itself)
